In The News

March 11, 2008 - Hamburg

Speaking at the 10th Annual General Online Research Conference at Hamburg University, Dirk Weller of German research firm Psychonomics cites the benefits of combined audio and text capabilities in conducting online focus groups. Referencing a February Psychonomics study that utilized and compared our audio and text room to a text-only room, the research showed, "In all four groups, more participants prefer the experience of the voice chat."

According to the study although text based chat has certain benefical dynamics, the addition of voice based chat provided numerous additional benefits:

  • Very structured and 'peaceful' flow
  • Participants have time to think and talk
  • Participants can easily listen to others and follow
  • Deep, vital insights to group emotions
  • Positive group feelings
January 4, 2008 - Palo Alto

Using conferROOMS technology developed for Palo Alto research firm Polimetrix, Dr. James Fishkin of Stanford University's Center for Deliberative Democracy brought together citizens from across the country in a series of Dialogues in Democracy.

In October and November 2007, 300 adult Americans engaged in a national discussion about citizenship and democracy in modern American society. 20 groups met for an hour each week for four weeks and deliberated on a different topic regarding Citizenship in the 21st Century.

Dr. Fishkin presented the results of his study to a gathering in Colonial Williamsburg as seen on the PBS special By the People on January 4.
